$4 billion and counting
That’s how much has been raised by all federal political candidates and groups through the first 18 months of Election 2012, according to an analysis released by the Federal Election Commission Wednesday.Notably, all presidential candidates have raised roughly half of what all congressional candidates raised during that period — about $602 million for Barack Obama, Mitt Romney and the also-rans versus $1.2 billion for congressional candidates.Furthermore, all political action committees — including both traditional PACs and super PACs, which can accept contributions of unlimited size — raised about $1.3 billion between January of 2011 and June of 2012.
