Paul Ryan raising money with billionaire who said the wealthy have “insufficient influence” in politics

Republican Vice Presidential Nominee Rep. Paul Ryan is scheduled to attend a fundraiser on Friday in Chicago co-chaired by hedge fund billionaire Ken Griffin.

Earlier this year, Griffin  told the Chicago Tribune that the ultra-wealthy “actually have an insufficient influence” in our political system.

Griffin has donated $1,050,000 to the Romney-aligned Restore Our Future super PAC, $5,000 directly to the campaign, $5,000 to Paul Ryan’s Congressional campaign, $1 million to American Crossroads, and checks to several other candidates and party committees, according to analysis of data from the Center for Responsive Politics.

With over $2 million in donations to Republican candidates and committees this cycle, one has to wonder at what point he believes the wealthy have sufficient influence in the political process.

Washington Post: Paul Ryan donations from a now-convicted Wis. businessman could draw fire

“Democrats have wasted little time blasting Republican vice presidential pick Paul Ryan over his federal budget plan, but a more obscure part of his record could also draw attention: his relationship with a convicted Wisconsin businessman.

“Ryan accepted nearly $60,000 in contributions from businessman Dennis Troha and his family, records show. Troha was later indicted on campaign finance charges over an Indian casino he sought to open. During the casino application process, Troha said, the Republican congressman called federal regulators at his request.

“Ryan (Wis.) also supported a bill in Congress that benefited Troha and his trucking company, legislation that drew the interest of federal prosecutors because of the contributions Ryan and other congressmen had accepted from Troha and his family.”
