In Citizens United, the Supreme Court said independent groups can’t be corrupting because they are independent. This indictment against Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) shows how wrong they were.
Sure, we wish the member of Congress would put his name to this Vox piece, “Confessions of a Congressman,” but it’s still good to see this self-awareness from an elected official (and a little depressing).

I think the notion that we have all the democracy that money can buy strays so far from what our democracy is supposed to be.
The fact is, we all should be working to overturn Citizens United and reduce the role of money in politics. And I guarantee you this: You reduce the role of money in politics, increase the level of civility – you will elect more women, more young people, more minorities, more LGBT community people to the Congress of the United States. It’s very important.
